Health Program Manager - Chronic Disease Management Team, ME CDC

 

Description:

As Health Program Manager in the Chronic Disease Management Team, Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention, you will oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of two chronic disease programs - Cardiovascular Health and Diabetes.  You will provide leadership to develop program goals and objectives, monitor program progress, administer grants, collaborate with internal and external partners, and oversee the work of program personnel.  Responsibilities include providing overall direction for planning, implementing, and evaluating statewide program efforts and developing and monitoring contracts and budgets.  Knowledge of public health practices related to cardiovascular disease and diabetes prevention and control is necessary as well as public health planning, implementation, and evaluation techniques.  Qualifications:  A Bachelor's Degree in Public Health or Health Sciences, Health Education, one of the Behavioral Sciences, Public Administration, Education, or related fields –AND- three (3) years experience in health program planning, development, implementation, and evaluation –OR- an equivalent seven (7) year combination of education, training, and experience.  Open until 5/2/05.  $40,102.40 – 55,868.80/yr

Physicians for Social Responsibility/Maine - Seeks Executive Director

PSR/Maine, a statewide non-profit organization based in Portland, is hiring a new Executive  Director.  PSR/Maine promotes a healthy, just, secure and sustainable world.  Current program work addresses the elimination of nuclear weapons, advancement of environmental public health, and the reduction of violence and its causes. We are a growing organization that has been active in the state for 27 years.

 The ideal candidate for the position will be an energetic, strategic, and creative individual; skilled in organizing, fundraising, management and outreach; and with strong experience in one of our program areas and interest in the other two.

Core Responsibilities

  • Direct the day-to-day operations of the organization, including project and program oversight for all committees.
  • Support the Board with information and materials necessary to perform its leadership role, including facilitating Board meetings.
  • Research, coordinate and carry-out fundraising efforts, including grant writing and member solicitations (major donor campaign, year end & membership recruitment)
  • Recruit and coordinate the participation of Chapter volunteers.
  • Monitor and manage the website and other electronic communications; keep the website current and effective.
  • Represent PSR/Maine as media spokesperson and at public hearings
  • Outreach to member activists on campaigns in all three issue areas: Environmental Public Health, Violence Prevention, and Security & Foreign Policy
  • Supervise contracted employees and volunteers working on Environmental Public Health and Violence Prevention programs
  • Design and compose newsletters 2-3 times yearly
  • Maintain and update database
  • Manage communication with state coalition partners and national PSR office
  • Work with chapter treasurer to create and manage yearly budget
  • Report to Chapter President on weekly basis

Program Specialist

Medical Care Development, Inc., a not-for-profit health services organization, in collaboration with Healthy Maine Partnership, is seeking a professional to serve as Program Specialist to handle administrative and program aspects of this project.  We are searching for an energetic, flexible, and detail-oriented candidate with a conscientious work style.

The primary purpose of this position is to facilitate the management of the statewide HMP initiative.  This includes both administrative support and assigned programming duties.  This position functions in a team environment requiring excellent organizational and interpersonal skills applied in close cooperative work with others.

Education Specialist III: Physical Education - Department of Education

Code 3060    Pay Grade 26 ($37,918.40 - $57,657.60)

JOB DESCRIPTION:    The Maine Department of Education is seeking an experienced physical education professional to provide leadership and direction regarding physical education curriculum, instructional practices and student assessment to K-12 school administrative units.  The position works to coordinate the planning, development, implementation and supervision of statewide programs to enhance teaching and ensure students’ opportunities to achieve the physical education standards outlined in Maine’s Learning Results and works within the context of Coordinated School Health Programs (CSHP). The position also assists with the Maine Schoolsite Health Promotion Program and with Healthy Maine Partnerships schools.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:   The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education, Adapted Physical Education or a related field and four (4) years professional level experience in teaching, planning, implementing and assessing physical education programs.  A Master’s Degree in Physical Education or a related field may be substituted for one year professional experience. Preferred candidates will have a Master’s degree and experience in implementing comprehensive K-12 physical education programs and in designing and delivering professional development in physical education. Candidates must demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.    

CURRENT VACANCY INFORMATION:   The Department of Education has one (1) full-time vacancy based in Augusta. Statewide travel required.

REPRESENTATIVE TASKS: Assignments include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide leadership statewide for the implementation of effective physical education programs K-12, including strategies for increasing physical activity time for students.

  • Provide technical assistance and professional development to schools and school systems on physical education curriculum, instruction and student assessment.

  • Collaborate with Department Coordinated School Health Programs (CSHP) staff to coordinate physical education and CSHP at the local, state, regional and national level, including work with the Excellence in Coordinated School Health Award Program.

  • Participate on the CSHP Interdepartmental Coordinating Committee and with other state departments and organizations on physical education and physical activity issues, including Maine Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (MAHPERD).

  • Assist with the planning and implementation of the Maine Schoolsite Health Promotion Program.

  • Collaborate with the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention on planning and oversight of the Healthy Maine Partnerships.

  • Work on Department led initiatives such as the development of physical education standards, assessments, classroom materials and trainings and meetings.

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:  These are among the requirements to successfully perform the work assigned.

Knowledge of current learning research and exemplary educational practice in physical education.

  • Knowledge of coordinated school health programs.

  • Knowledge of performance-based and standards-based educational systems as they apply to physical education.

  • Knowledge of Maine’s Learning Results, the process of developing and implementing these standards and associated assessments.

  • Knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations related to physical education.

  • Knowledge of physical activity and nutrition for school-aged students.

  • Ability to identify and effectively deploy resources to support physical education program efforts.

  • Ability to plan, organize, implement and evaluate professional development activities.

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

  • Ability to plan and facilitate meetings.

  • Ability to coordinate and manage multiple projects.

  • Ability to use fax, technology-based communications (i.e., Internet, Web) and e-mail systems, laptop and desktop computer systems, word processing and data applications, including the ability to access technology resources for physical education.

  • Ability to establish effective working relationships and to work collaboratively in a team environment, and with other organizations and institutions.
