LDA of Maine Annual Conference - "Learning Disabilities & Coexisting Emotional Problems"

Friday, April 11, 2008 - Grandeur Sun Banquet & Conference Center, Waterville

Presented by author & LD/ADHD mental health specialist Dr. Larry Silver, MD.  This intense mental health professional program includes the "co-morbidity" disorders often found with individuals with learning disabilities including anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, anger control/bipolar disorder, and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder.  Dr. Silver will focus on the clinical description, diagnosis, and treatment of these disorders ending the day with a group discussion and response to your questions.  For conference and registration information, go to http://www.ldame.org/events.html.

 


Marketing 102:  Getting Everyone on Board

The USM Lifeline Center for Wellness and Health Promotion will offering this interactive seminar that will provide you with the tools, strategies, and marketing knowledge to maximize participation in your wellness programs.  Phyllis Wolfe from BIW and Tara Ryan from the Crescendo Consulting Group will facilitate.  The fee is $30 for Southern Maine Wellness Council members and $60 for nonmembers.  The registration deadline is Monday, April 14, 2008.  Contact Tom Downing at 780-4879 or downing@usm.maine.edu for registration information.

 


 

PAN Training Series:  Sharpen Your Skills for Effective Physical Activity and Nutrition Programming

The Maine Physical Activity and Nutrition Program and the Maine Nutrition Network, in collaboration with their partners, are pleased to announce this unique opportunity.  These four skill-building sessions will address evidence-based nutrition and physical activity promotion strategies and will be useful to individuals and organizations working in the community, school, worksite and healthcare settings from the local and/or state levels.  CEUs will be available for Registered Dieticians, for CHES credit, and for general attendance.  Maximum benefit will be achieved for individuals who attend all four training sessions, therefore a significant discount will be given to individuals attending all four sessions when they register for the fourth session.  More information on registration fees is forthcoming.  For more information, contact Rebecca Drewette-Card at 207-287-5084 or Rebecca.DrewetteCard@maine.gov.

Community Preparedness:  Addressing the Needs of Diverse Populations

April 17-18, 2008, New Haven, Connecticut

The Yale Center for Public Health Preparedness is pleased to announce a community preparedness conference aimed at addressing the needs of diverse populations.  The goal of the conference is to provide participants with tools that can be used to plan for the needs of special, at-risk and vulnerable populations during an emergency.  Topics include:  emergency preparedness for diverse populations; emergency sheltering; ethical principals of emergency management concerning diverse populations; risk communication; and GIS and database systems in emergency planning for diverse populations.  Registration deadline:  April 4.  Registration fee:  $95.  Space is limited so register as soon as possible!  To register, please visit http://publichealth.yale/edu/ycphp/conference.html.  For more information, please contact Cristie Duric at cristie.duric@yale.edu.
