Public Health Emergency Preparedness Training

This major initiative at MCPH focuses on the coordination of all public health emergency preparedness training efforts for the state of Maine. The Center has been involved in this endeavor beginning in 2004 with the award of a Maine CDC grant to develop a train the trainer program in partnership with Harvard School of Public Health Center for Public Health Preparedness. We continue to work in partnership with Harvard and the three Regional Resource Centers as well as the Training Committee for Medical, Behavioral and Public Health Emergency Preparedness. This committee includes members from UNE, Maine Primary Care Association, the state HTLE laboratory and other collaborators and supporters throughout the state.

To date we have held three annual statewide conferences with focus on SARS, the Gulf Hurricanes, and Reaching Vulnerable populations in a Public Health Emergencies.  We continue to offer Avian flu table top exercises with the goal of reaching all counties in Maine with this training.  The Advanced Clinical Aspects to Emergency Preparedness training has been widely successful and has been requested to be repeated annually. It is the goal of the Maine CDC and of the Maine Center for Public Health to work with the stakeholders to provide as many public health emergency preparedness trainings as funding allows.
