Radio Transmission: Bands
•Band describes a range of frequencies (channels)
•Common bands include:
–VHF (low band) 25-50 and 72-76 MHz
–VHF (high band) 150-174 MHz
–UHF 450-512 MHz
–UHF 900 MHz
–2 GHz
Speaking Points
•Different frequencies (channels) have different properties.  High frequencies (lots of waves each second) have lots of energy and can penetrate buildings, but do not travel far.  Low frequencies (fewer waves per second) have much less energy and therefore penetrate buildings more poorly, but can travel for longer distances.

•“Bands” are groups of channels that have similar properties.

•The common bands and their corresponding frequencies are listed here.  VHF stands for Very High Frequency and UHF stands for Ultra High Frequency.
