Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW)

Purpose/Goals:

Early this year, the Maine CDC received funding for “Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW)” as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) after collaborating with  Maine Center for Public Health to prepare applications for these awards, with MCPH earning the contract to evaluate the projects.

Maine CDC won two awards: The community project, known as CPPW, was awarded to Healthy Portland and Healthy Lakes and addresses physical activity and nutrition. The state project, known as CPPW-STI was awarded to the PAN-HW program and the PTM program. The PAN-HW program will focus on policies for the childcare setting (Starting Young Initiative) and the college setting (menu labeling in the University of Maine System) and the PTM program will focus on improving licensure for licensed alcohol and drug councilors so that they can address tobacco control.

The Maine Center for Public Health will design and implement an evaluation plan with the two communities (Healthy Portland and Healthy Lakes) and WITH AND FOR the state programs.
