Would your organization like to build internal training capacity for effective communication with patients/families on the issue of childhood overweight & obesity?

This workshop will focus on tools and hands-on activities for brief patient centered communications that result in a teaching framework for working with the “whole person/family.”

We are extremely pleased to have Keri Bolton Oetzel, PhD, MPH, LPC leading our training.  Keri is a licensed clinical counselor who has worked with children, adolescents and families for 10 years.  She is the Communication Trainer at Envision New Mexico.  Her primary role there is to train providers how to communicate with children and parents about increasing healthy lifestyles.

Participants will be expected to conduct at least one training session with their colleagues, parent organization or others in the next year.

Participant learning objectives include:

·         To be familiar with at least three MI training activities

·         To develop and lead an exercise in MI training

·         To develop an outline for a PowerPoint Presentation of a training session

Who should attend?

Representatives from primary care offices, health systems, community organizations, Healthy Maine Partnerships, public health nursing, daycare, school-based health centers, registered dieticians, care managers, among others are all encouraged to attend.  We suggest attending as training team such as a community organization & clinical member might be helpful.
